We are not another barrel sauna.
We are an architectural legacy.
Meant to be enjoyed for a lifetime,
and by generations to come.
There are many things that set aside an Arc Sauna from typical barrel saunas.
A lot of thought went into our designs to achieve ultimate space and comfort, minimal heat up times, and a unique architectural appeal.
You will notice the precise attention to detail that goes into each build as soon as you enter an Arc Sauna, for its lifetime.
Scroll down to learn the intricate details that set us apart.
Patent-Pending Ventilated Rafter System & Metal Roof
Our patent-pending ventilated rafter system with a metal roof finish is the first roof system in the barrel sauna market to provide overhangs on all four sides of the sauna, redirecting the rain, snow, falling debris and other elements. This protects the integrity of the structure both inside and out, eliminates water stains, and keeps you and your sauna nice and dry in all weather conditions.
Our curved rafters provide crucial ventilation between the sauna staves and metal roof finish, to allow any condensation between them to escape and dry out. This eliminates the common problem of mould and mildew growth with other saunas that use an asphalt tarp directly on top of the staves, trapping the moisture created by hot air meeting cold, eventually rotting the structure.
Saunas are meant to be used for our health, and we all know that breathing in mould spores will not achieve this.

Unmatched Space
In our barrel sauna design, we set out to square the circle. This unique shape allows the Vitruvian Man full range of motion, so each user can relax and spread out, or practice yoga or a light work out.
Ergonomically, the stave walls perfectly contour the natural shape of your spine, for comfortable back support on the lower side bench. There is 78” of headroom inside an Arc Sauna, while the door opening is 72” tall, so your tallest friend won’t have to duck getting in.
As soon as you enter an Arc Sauna, you’ll be amazed at how spacious it is inside.
We invite you to come see the difference.

Ancient Preservation Method
Arc Saunas are naturally preserved with an ancient preservation method used by the Vikings, Natives, and Roman Empire for their boats and other structures.
There are wooden buildings in Norway that have been protected for nearly a thousand years, such as The Borgund Stave Church in Lærdalen, Norway that was built just before 1150 and remains in excellent condition due to this superior preservation method.
Our saunas are protected with the the same all natural, non toxic, eco friendly coatings. We use 100% natural pine tar and purified boiled linseed oil, which is the product of rendering down the sap of pine trees and the oil of flaxseed.
By using conifer trees' own concentrated natural defence against water, sun, and insects, our saunas are protected for a lifetime without the use of any petroleum based products and have a beautiful natural rich colour you won’t find anywhere else in the market. With regular maintenance, our saunas are expected to last as long as the wooden structures in Norway.

Tiered Bench Layout
Thanks to the shape of our barrel design with a large amount of headroom, we are able to incorporate both an upper and lower bench in our saunas. This is important in sauna bathing tradition because the sauna bench should be above the top of the stove for maximum heat exposure. As well all know, heat rises; by having a two-tiered bench layout the user is able to chose their heat intensity level and get the most out of their hyperthermia experience.
The upper bench in all our models is a lengthy 80” for anybody to lie down and stretch out. In our smallest model, the Nelja, the user is still able to sit back and stretch out their legs with 59” of room on the lower bench. While in our bigger Kuusi and Suuri models the user can enjoy 80”+ on both benches.

All of our lumber is sourced and kiln dried within a 100km radius of our shop. This drastically decreases the amount of petroleum used to ship our lumber back and forth and greatly reduces our eco footprint. Our Atlantic stands of conifer, birch and aspen are exposed to some of the coldest, harshest conditions during their growth. This isn’t great if you want to grow a lot of lumber fast to mass deforest it afterwards, but is unmatched if you want some of the highest quality lumber left on the market.
Many luthiers, master instrument makers, seek out the lumber grown in our climate because of its essential properties, which creates something known to them as “Tone Wood”. In some of our lumber used for the staves, you are unable to count the rings and differentiate one from another because of their extremely slow, tight annual growth. This creates a product with high resistance to water, splitting, warping, insects, and beautiful sound qualities, perfect for saunas.
Locally Sourced, Superior Lumber
Fully Framed, Rockwool© Insulated, Front & Back Walls
Arc Saunas gable walls are fully framed with 2"x6" constuction and finished with 1"x6" tongue and groove on both sides. This allows us to insulate our front and back walls for maximum heat retention inside a barrel sauna. Unlike all other barrel sauna companies, who simply use 2"x6" T&G wall boards with no insulation properties, that often come together in 3 or more separate pieces, creating weak hinge points and undesirable air gaps.
By building our walls this way, not only are we able to incorporate insulation and have superior durability, but we are also able to run electrical wires and plumbing inside our walls. Allowing us to use sophisticated touch-less dimmer knobs for our lights, without exposed wires, instead of simple wall mounted battery powered lights. In addition to the plumbing for our exclusive and innovative built-in water features.
We may have to work 3x as hard during install carrying these heavy walls into place, but it is worth it for our customers.

Arc Saunas are individually built to our customers specific requirements in our local Newfoundland shop by passionate carpenters with extreme attention to detail and the utmost pride in their work. From design to installation and everything in-between.
We proudly incorporate the use of joinery used in timber-frame structures, and aspects to our design that can only be masterly achieved by hand. You will not find any screws.
Arc Saunas believes that it is apart of our responsibility to preserve these traditional methods in a world where consumerism is taking over. Our saunas are proudly built using many hand tools that provide a finished product that can never be matched by a CNC machine mass producing overseas.
Truly Hand Crafted
WETT Certifable Wood Heaters
All of our wood heater assemblies are designed to meet and or exceed WETT certification standards throughout Canada.
As far as we know, we are the only barrel sauna manufacturer in Canada that meets these expectations and we take great pride in this.
By using our corrugated metal heat shield from the floor to ceiling, the proper heat reflectors and base plates, in addition to converting our chimney system from the 4 1/2" European standard to 6" North American standard, and maintaining all the necessary clearances from combustible materials, you will be able to have your wood fired sauna certified by your local WETT certified inspector. We are able to send you all the necessary documentation to apply and be approved for a permit beforehand if necessary.
Giving you peace of mind that your sauna is safe and insurance friendly.

We go above and beyond when building our saunas and we take great pride in this.
Our doors are assembled using mortise and tenon joinery and hung with high end recessed hinges.
Every stave, every wall board, every bench and floor board is finally sanded by hand and their corners rounded.
Every notch, every cut, is done with precision.
Our bench corners are mitred and their nosings are curved.
If it's not assembled using joinery, then it's assembled using hidden fasteners.
Our floor joists are under-padded so they don't make a sound.
And so much more. Some call us crazy and think it's unnecessary to build to this level of standards. We consider it uncompromisable to build with this kind of intention.
